There are plenty of wonderful places to eat around our local area. Here are some of our favourites…
The Olive Branch
Clipsham - multi-award winning gastropub. Consistently good and the best food locally.
The George & Dragon
Seaton – cosy little pub with excellent food, only a couple of miles from Barrowden.
The Old White Hart and Marquess of Exeter
Both in Lyddington just along the valley and known for their food.
The Finches Arms
Hambleton - excellent food and great to tie in with a walk around the peninsula.
Stamford has a few chain eateries – Pizza Express, Ask. The Mad Turk is a good Turkish restaurant. The George Hotel is a traditional coaching inn and well worth a visit for drinks, dinner or a coffee. Also many cafes, bars and pubs in Stamford, particularly the Stamford Wine Bar, the Tobie Norris, the William Cecil and Paten & Co.
Oakham has two good pubs for food, the Lord Nelson and the Admiral Hornblower. Fika is a fantastic scandi style café attached to Cavells clothing store on Mill St.
Uppingham is a smaller town but has a really good BYO curry house, Red India (also does takeaway. NB they only take cash), also a fantastic little scandi coffee shop, Scandimania on the high street. The Silver Fish Bar does fish and chip takeaway. There is also a Chinese – Choi’s - to eat in or take away.
There is a fully equipped kitchen at The Haybarn, so if you’d rather a cosy night in there is a village shop in Barrowden, a smallish Co-op in Uppingham, and all the bigger supermarket names in Stamford and Oakham. Cook on Stamford High Street does good freshly frozen ready meals.
